From Inside the Room
An Insider’s Guide to Psychotherapy
Richard Raubolt, PhD, ABPP & Kirk Brink, PhD
What does psychotherapy look like from the therapist’s chair?
Richard Raubolt and Kirk Brink take readers inside the work itself—the uncertainty, complexity, judgment, and humanity that rarely fit neatly into a textbook.
And yes, Shelley makes an appearance.
She contributes a brief reflection of her own on grief and grief work, adding another voice from inside the consulting room.
What We’re Reading
Books we return to, recommend, argue with, and occasionally wish we'd written.
The Body Keeps the Score
Bessel van der Kolk, MD
One of those books that changed the conversation in the consulting room.
Van der Kolk makes a compelling case that trauma isn't held only in memory or narrative—it can shape the body, relationships, and the ways people move through the world. The book expanded our understanding of what healing can look like, while giving us plenty to think about, question, and discuss.
